The value of leasing drawdowns fell slightly
in 2005-6 to £72,396k (2004-5 £75,718k). This decline was more significant
with regard the number of Contract Award Notices which fell 16% to 106. The
17% fall in Invitations to Tender to 123 in 2005-6 indicates a likely
further drop in business levels for the year 2006-7. The market continues to be dominated by the Local Authorities with 83% of all tenders. 10% being related to Fire Authorities and 7% to the NHS. It is not clear whether this low interest from the NHS is due to an aversion to the use of correct tendering procedures or leasing itself. The use of advisors is prevalent within Local and Fire Authorities sector with only two Invitations to Tender not utilising them. Yet in the two year period 2004-6 only one Invitation to Tender re the appointment of advisors has been published. Siemens Financial Services and SG Equipment Finance Ltd with 42% of the market between them by value (40% 2004-5) and 50% by number ( 35% 2004-5) continue to dominate the market with Alliance and Leicester the fastest growing with an increase in market share from 2.9% to 10.3% by value.
